Parque Luro Provincial Reserve

La Pampa

A few kilometres away from Santa Rosa, the Parque Luro Provincial Reserve protects one of the few caldén forests (prosopis caldenia) in the country, the emblem tree of the Pampas plains. It is famous for its population of red deer, a species introduced from Europe that is part of the cultural heritage of La Pampa.

Open to visitors all year round. During March and April, the bellow of deer offers a unique spectacle. Charged entry.

What to see
Trails

The reserve has five trails of different lengths and low difficulty, that allow you to unveil different environments such as caldén forests, dunes, lagoons, valleys and saltpetre sites. In addition to deer, abundant wildlife can be found: guanacos, rheas, cougars and foxes. More than 160 species of birds were identified, including the Chaco eagle, the yellow cardinal and the cinnamon warbling finch.

Museum

Inside the reserve, an old house became the El Castillo Museum, which preserves all the original furniture and design pieces (it was declared a National Historic Monument). You can visit the carriage room, the dairy farm and the stables. It also provides a flavour of the culture and cosmovision of the indigenous peoples who inhabited the site.

The bellow

Between March and April, the male deer give a unique spectacle when they start their mating season and call the females with their hoarse bellow.
