Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve

City of Buenos Aires

The Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is one of the most beautiful urban reserves in the world: a few blocks away from downtown Buenos Aires, it is ideal to disconnect from urban noise and connect with nature; to walk or ride the bike and do sports.

Open to visitors all year round. Open from Tuesday to Sunday. Guided tours can be arranged in advance. Closed due to rain. Free-of-charge.

What to see
Trails

The Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve has a wide network of trails to enjoy the coast of La Plata River, to walk along grasslands, native forests and visit the viewpoints to see the lagoons that indulge us with views of nature and skyscrapers.

It is a “must” for bird-watchers: about 300 species have been identified, making the place an IBA site (Important Bird Area). Tortoises and Argentine black and white tegus are also commonly seen. Due to its global importance as a wetland, the reserve was declared a RAMSAR site.

How to get there and move around

The reserve is located in the Puerto Madero district, a 30-minute walk from downtown Buenos Aires. You can get there on foot, by bike, car, taxi, private vehicle or urban public transport. It has two entrances: north (close to Viamonte Street) and south (close to Brasil Street, next to the famous Lola Mora fountain).

Where to stay

Inside the reserve, there are picnic areas and at the entrance, you will find food kiosks. The City of Buenos Aires has a wide range of accommodation and restaurant options.
