Meet South American tapirs at Urugua-í Provincial Park
Spotting wild animals in the jungle is not easy. However, at Urugua-í Provincial Park, South American tapirs, the largest land mammals in South America, will walk near you so that you can watch and venerate them. They are an endangered species that declared a Natural heritage. Tapirs play a strategic role as they disperse seeds and thus preserve the biodiversity of the Atlantic Rainforest.
South American tapirs are remotely related to rhinoceroses and can weigh up to 300 kilos. You can see them walking along the park’s trails, especially early in the morning or late at night, and much better if you go with a guide. If you want to live a complete experience, stay at its wild campsites in the middle of the jungle.
