Paso Córdoba (RP 63)

Neuquén

This is an alternate path to the Siete Lago Route to connect the cities of Bariloche and San Martín de los Andes. It will allow you to discover one of the least known and deserted faces of western Neuquén: a landscape of arid mountains, patches of lenga, Antarctic beech, and cypress forests, streams, whimsical rock formations, and a gravel road that meanders and channels into mighty rivers.

As you walk, you will find a detour to see Pozones de Caleufú, with tunnels and natural rock pools. Further ahead, on the main route, you can explore a natural cavern called Casa de Piedra (Stone House) or Ruca Cura in the Mapuche language, which was a refuge for the indigenous people who inhabited the area 10,000 years ago. After a winding ascent, find the Paso Córdoba viewpoint, with an amazing panoramic view of the route at 1,300 metres above sea level. If you want to be delighted by the numerous colours of the forest, autumn is the ideal time for this trip.

Remember that, if you take any of these routes, it is highly important that you take your rubbish with you, follow the authorised trails, and take care of the surrounding nature.
