Monte Zeballos (RP 41)

Santa Cruz

This scenic route is the most mountainous in Southern Patagonia and the highest in the province of Santa Cruz. Going past unique landscapes, you can see how the Andes Mountains and the steppe meet.

It connects the villages of Los Antiguos (on the shores of Buenos Aires Lake, one of the largest and most important in Argentina) and Lago Posadas on a road crossing basaltic fields and standpoints with views of hills, waterfalls, confluences, and river sources.

On the tour, you reach the highest point in El Portezuelo Crossing, at 1,520 metres high. On clear days, you can see the two most impressive peaks in the area: San Lorenzo Mount, the highest in the province at 3,706 metres, and Zeballos Mount, the great figure of this scenic route, at 2,720 metres.

In the company of guanacos, Darwin’s rhea, and foxes, you get to Lago Posadas village, between the Posadas and Pueyrredón lakes, where the impressive Stone Arc rock formation gives you one of the most iconic postcard-like view of north-western Santa Cruz.
